Seeing Science Everywhere
Some individuals think science is reserved for the classroom only! If you look closely though, science can be seen all around us!
Take a look around, what do you see? On the surface it is probably people, cars, phones, clothes, streets, and other typical activities. But take a closer look around. Everything around us moves, interacts, gets built, and is alive. From the grass growing on the street to the insects on the street, from people talking to taxis movings, all of these things are science!
Have you ever witnessed someone claiming that science is boring or that science doesn't matter? They could not be more wrong. Science is all around us and is the study of all things (essentially).
Here are a few examples of science in your daily life.
The most interactive one is your phone. That smart phone in your pocket is the living embodiment of science in a variety of disciplines. From the ergonomic shape and feel of the phone, to the applications running on the phone itself. All of these were built by engineers or designed by engineers of some kind using science. How do you think a computer that at one point in time was as big as a room and more expensive than an apartment, can now be miniaturized to easily fit in a pocket? It was and is science. How about how your phone receives cell phone signals. How when you pick it up you can talk to anyone, anywhere in the world even over video? It's nothing more than the application of simple science. Using waves, digitization, and more, scientists applied more advanced versions of basic things that you see everyday to make your world work.
Convinced yet? Think about yourself. Ever wonder why you sweat? Why your eyes are the color that they are? Why you look like your mother and father? Prefer steak over fish (or vice versa)? Are hot or cold? Bleed when you are cut? Can get better from a sickness using orange juice? This all can be explained by science.
That's what science does. It explains the world around you and why it works the way that it does. What's even more fun, is that once you know why the world around you works how it does, you can begin to be more proactive in your world. Using your knowledge to more directly create an impact in the world around you!
